This small Village located in Wyoming County N.Y. is definitely one of the busiest little place's in the State. Home to Morton Salt, Silver Spring's has seen very little change in the last 30 years. The only businesses that have vanished are the Taverns that once populated the Village. Place's like  the Kenwood and Poor Boys are gone, Gussie's is now home to Commissioners Restaurant. The  Silver Springs Dairy Bar which was very popular has been closed for years. The railroad still operates and carries the salt from the mines to larger cities. Silver Springs is on the southern edge of Silver Lake but doesn't have any property on the Lake itself. Several other small businesses are located in the area as well. Silver Lake has changed dramatically over the last 30 years. The small weekend cottages are all but gone and have been replaced by larger year round homes. People have left Buffalo and Rochester to move to  Silver Lake, making the commute through the snow each Winter. The Summer season on the Lake has seen the biggest change over the years. As a young boy growing up each Summer on the Lake was exciting, the fishing was good and there was always something to do. Picnic's, back then everybody had a picnic or a party at there cottage on the weekends, they would take turns each week having a party. That has changed also over the year's. Eveyone seems to stay to themselves more often now. There is still plenty to do on Lake, but for those that have seen the change they have such fond memories it really seems to bother them.
Opportunity knocks for the entrepreneur in this small Village as they recently opened up the Center of Silver Springs to Snowmobile's. This could mean a new Tavern may open in the Village as well as a Small Hotel. That along with a push being made for Tavern's, Bowling Alleys and Pool Halls to have Video Slot Machines and Texas Holdem, might bring back some nite life to many small Villages like Silver Springs N.Y.. Life in a small Town or Village can be simple and may seem boring to some, However life is only what you make it.
When the boredom of everyday life in the bigger city takes hold of you, remember, you don't have to travel very far to see other lifestyles. Silver Springs N.Y. is about 40 miles from Buffalo and Rochester N.Y.. Plan your day, have lunch, dinner and entertainment in a different atmosphere and don't forget to buy the Christmas Tree at Luczaks Tree Farm for a lifetime of holiday memories.
